A Little Known Place

Over a period of time, at the end of a painting day I would take the mixed oil paint left on my palette and applied it to a small canvas. Slowly the surface of the canvas was build up with several layers of paint, either brushed on or applied by palette knife. I then put it aside.

Sometime later, months, or maybe even a year or two, I took it out and just sat with it. Purely abstract at this point, I looked closely for a way into a narrative, a recognizable form, not unlike when we look at clouds. It became a place of water and lush vegetation. By its darkness the place looks to be the interior of a cave, perhaps. It is a little-known place, that exists in the depth of our unconsciousness, like an oasis offering us nurturing shade, water and food.
