The Sleeping Kangaroo, 2014, oil on canvas, 4 x 4 inches/ 10 x 10 cm.
This is a tiny painting of a tiny baby Kangaroo, taking a nap in a Kangaroo park in Melbourne. The kangaroos were everywhere and very accustomed to having a lot of people around, feeding them, touching them. But even with this behavior of approval on their part, the kangaroos being closed in, in a fenced park, I was reminded of the history of the first "imported" settlers; prisoners from England. Who is free and who isn't? It became unclear to me who was the visitor and who was the visitee.
