The Griffith Park mural. Inspired by walks in Griffith Park, the place in the middle of Los Angeles where los angelenos come to find peace and perspective, I painted various aspects of it, from the nature, plants, coyote, houses on the hill, and telephone wires. Thinking back on the city's beginning as a town of silent movies in black and white, I chose a monochromatic palette, but with a few hints of pinks and red peeking through here and there. Some elements are rendered carefully, others painted more abstractly, and in this process I used everything from big palette knives, to rags, to fine paint brushes.
